This recipe was one from my Middle School Home Economics class! I probably sound a lot older than I am when I said that. Actually, lets play a game! Based on the fact that I took home economics in school, how old does everyone think I am? But seriously, this is the one recipe from the class that I make a few times a year and absolutely love.
Makes 9-15 Pieces
Cast iron pan
Oven heated to 450 degrees
2 Cups Flour
1 Tablespoon Baking Powder
1 teaspoon Salt
1/4 Cup Shortening
3/4 Cup Milk
1) Blend together the baking powder, salt, and flour.
2) Use a pastry cutter to cut in the shortening until the mixture is crumbly.
3) Stir in the milk slowly while stirring with a fork. Only add enough milk that nothing sticks to the side of the bowl as your stir.
4) Knead the dough on a floured surface 20-25 times.
5) Roll out the dough gently, and cut with the round cookie cutter of your choice. If you don’t have a round cookie cutter, a drinking class works as well.
6) Place the biscuits into a cast iron pan, and bake for 10-12 minutes.
I love how golden brown these biscuits always turn out. I eat them with pretty much every meal. They are great with sausage and eggs for breakfast, with chicken salad for lunch, and with ribs for dinner!
